Big Tex Self Storage - Montrose Begins Redevelopment of 1810 Richmond Ave Location

Construction at 1810 Richmond Ave recently began for our new Montrose facility, which will offer 100,000 square feet of storage units for personal property, business use, and wine collections starting in August 2016.

Focused on the development of multistory core class-A storage assets in markets where the real estate is considered irreplaceable assets, we are especially excited to redevelop this previously vacant property centrally located to serve Montrose, West University, Midtown, Southampton, and Boulevard Oaks area residents.

Richmond Property Redevelopment

Big Tex Storage Montrose will be the first project on Richmond in the Montrose area that will provide a pedestrian realm along our entire frontage of Richmond Ave with updated landscaping and new side walks. This will be done at our development expense and given back as right of way to the City of Houston and its residents.

As part of the redevelopment process, the City of Houston granted tree removal permits for five trees that were in poor condition due to car damage and large sections of rotten limbs from years of neglect. While the posed safety hazard made it impossible for trees to remain on the property, we believe in being good stewards to the environment. Before the trees were removed with the city forester's approval, Big Tex purchased $5,000 of trees and donated them to the City of Houston tree yard. The 28 new cypress and oak trees will be planted through a program where the local youth plant trees and gain a green thumb while further beautifying our great city. As a locally owned business that is Houston born, Houston owned and Houston proud, this is just one of the many ways we try to give back to our community.

The state-of-the-art storage facility will be equipped with extensive security features including over 40 cameras recording on-site activity on a 24-hour basis, monitors on every floor, and digitally controlled access to enter the facility. The climate-controlled storage units will include individual door alarms for added security. As an added convenience, it will include an on-site packing and moving supply store.
